The development of a national body for learning and teaching in higher education was overseen by the Australian Universities Teaching Committee (AUTC). The AUTC was established in 2000 as part of the Government's commitment to promoting quality and excellence in university teaching and learning in Australia and ceased operating in December 2005. The AUTC was responsible for the Australian Awards for University Teaching, the National Teaching Forum and the Visiting Scholar program.
